Directions for locating Public Access stations on COX Cable

In December 2010 Cox Cable changed the way their customers view Public Access TV.  Cox is sending their signal for Public Access TV with a digital transmission rather than analog to free up bandwith to be used for more HD channels in the line up.  If you can no longer access Wethersfield TV -Channel 14, please review the below information.

•Existing COX digital customers with a receiver box can view Public Access TV on channels 14, 15 & 16.

•If you don't have a  receiver box:
Televisions with a built-in digital (or QAM) tuner will be able to receive the Public Access channels. Any television built after March 1, 2007 is equipped with a digital tuner. To find these channels, simply re-scan for channels using your television’s remote control.

In addition, some customers may have other digital tuners (such as TiVO). Customers with digital tuners should have been receiving the Public Access channels without interruption following the migration on December 15.

•If you want to find out if you have a digital-ready TV:
If your TV was manufactured after March 1, 2007, it is digital ready. If not (or if you’re not sure) you should conduct a channel scan on your TV.  Some of the channel numbers may have a decimal point (example, 26.1). These would be digital channels (the decimal is because up to 6 programs can air simultaneously on one digital channel). Since December 2010, the Public Access channels began airing on digital channels as follows:

Channel 14:   117.170
Channel 15:   123.185
Channel 16:   117.173
TVGuide:       122.177

If your scan does not find any channels with decimal points, it is unlikely you have a built-in digital tuner.

•How do I scan for channels on my TV?
On most TVs, a channel scan can be conducted by pressing “MENU” and then looking through the options available.
